Dec 21 07 11:09 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I used to see Horror Of Party Beach on TV as a kid in the 70's and I was terrified of those monsters. The weird sounds they made always sent chills down my spine. I got it on DVD a couple of years ago (Darksky's double feature of Horror Of Party Beach & Curse Of The Living Corpse). Of course now the film is mostly laughable, but I still think some of it is really scary. For instance, when the monsters break into the girl's slumber party and kill every last one of the screaming teen beauties? Holy sh*t! Pretty violent stuff!!! I also love the strange monster music. Sounds like an early synthesizer making noises through an analog delay (Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha...). Cool commentary track by the filmmaker on this DVD as well. I also own the MST3K version on DVD-r and it is GREAT! Somewhere on these boards is a thread about the DarkSky DVD (from around the time it came out), but I couldn't find it. It doesn't sound so much like a synthesizer to me. The weird monster music sounds more like what you would get by playing around with (or modifying) the reverb on a quitar amp (like the sounds you hear on 60s surf guitar records). Everyone talks about the monster suits with the hot dogs/sausages coming our of the mouths, but there are actually two completely different type of monster suits used in the movie. The second type of suit is more of a non-descript design, like a blob with lots of seaweed covering the entire body, and no sausages in the mouth. The reverse holds for the rim lights. Not only that, but the girl is looking to the right and screaming, not at the monster behind her. These visual cues very strongly suggest that the shot is a composite. And what's with the bucket on the floor?

It was a pulse-pounding race against death shot before dawn. I guess they didn't have any salt in Connecticut in those days. Sodium compounds, like sodium chloride (table salt), sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and sodium nitrate (saltpeter), are much more stable and won't react explosively with water. Any scientific misunderstandings in this case are not the fault of the filmmakers behind *The Horror of Party Beach*.
