Jun 1 12 4:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As of yesterday, I reached one of the turning points in this movie-watching project. I've now used up my entire backlog that kept me able to post a different review each day for almost eleven years. The upshot of this is that I can no longer promise to review a different new movie for each day. On days that I have no movie to watch, I'll be posting entries on the "Ones-that-got-away" thread, which I think is as significant part of the project as the ones that I actually watch. To help you to keep up with which days I have a movie and which days I cover the ones that I haven't seen, I'll be starting a thread that will simply give a day-by-day record of the movie for that day, or if there was no movie for that day. That way, if you want to see the latest entry, you can check there to find which one it is. Also, the movie watching will be in real time. In reality, there are some days I can't fit in a whole movie, and I have to finish watching it the next day. If I fall behind, I will catch up, and will definitely have an entry for every day. You don`t ever consider just watching something on YouTube that isn`t on your current list? Or go see the newest genre film at the movies?

Yes, I pretty much stick to the list. The list is limited to a thousand movies, and that's why when I get stuck, I toss a few into the "ones that got away" list, which frees up space to add five more movies from the guides. I'll be the first to admit that it's a somewhat arbitrary system, but it does make me concentrate equally well on the obscurities, which I rather enjoy doing. Aug 8 12 8:14 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Those of you keeping track have probably noticed that I've just reached by 4000th movie for the series. Yes, it's another landmark in the series. As I promised some time ago, that means that I'll be augmenting my essentials list with another 1000 movies, and probably throwing another ten on the inessentials list. I'll be adding them one a day whenever I review a new movie. In advance of doing that, I'd like to thank Andrew Kidd for his help; he took the time to compile a list of suggestions, most of which I'm going to be using for the list. I think he may be more familiar with my reviews than I am. Thanks, Andrew! Oh, Benson, dear Benson, you are so mercifully free from the ravages of intelligence!

And to give people an idea of what it was like 4,000 movies ago (yes, I was there from the beginning when Dave started his movie viewing viewing project): There was no YouTube. The Internet Archive had only just begun its Moving Images archival project. DVDs had been around for a while, but many classics, as well as various other more obscure or more quietly revered cult gems had yet to make it to the format, and and it was still being argued over just how successful-and how expansive-the format would eventually be. It seemed that when Dave started out with his project that there would be always be some movies that he, and the rest of us, would never see and forever be out of reach, the cultural, economic and technological transformations of the past ten years ensured that this would not be the case! And while there are still some movies that, for various reasons, remain elusive, thanks to various other helpful board members, the mysteries surround their elusiveness have at least been somewhat dispelled! I've convinced myself - as (you know me!) a silent film genre fan - that I've been lucky enough to view more than most (and maybe just about all) had actually taken in back in the day. I say that in spite of all of the films still unfortunately lost. Anyway, well said, Andrew. Steve "This is the wireless detonator, men," he explained.
