You got it absolutely, Richard. The novel (almost a novella, really) reads like a damn movie. I never understood why somebody didn't just hand out copies of the paperback to cast and crew and say, "We're shooting this." All three adaptations are messes, in varying ways. I actually had hopes for the Will Smith version until the creatures arrived onscreen and showed just how stupid, unrealistic and ineffective even expensive CGI can be.

The Last Man On Earth is just so much creepier. Vincent Price is always great in anything he's in, and this one's no exception. I can totally see similarities with Night Of The Living Dead (1968), another favorite of mine.
