Sep 25 05 11:18 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's that time of year again, so does anybody here know what horror movies they'll be watching? I'm taking a break this year from all the classics I've (and probably everybody else on this board) have seen a million times and for the most part will be watching films I haven't seen yet or in a while. Films I'll be watching include: The Val Lewton box set: I've only seen four of the films, and never CAT PEOPLE, if you can believe that. Looking forward to viewing this set. The Universal Hammer box set: I've seen CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF recently, but plan on watching the other seven in the coming month. STRANGLER OF THE SWAMP and THE BRUTE MAN: Just bought the DVD's and am showing great restraint in waiting until October. ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE: Another film I have not seen and will thanks to the Vol. 4 DVD set coming soon. Will probably watch MEET THE MUMMY this month too. THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN (I've had it on DVD for awhile but have yet to watch it) THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS: Based on reputation, CITIZEN KANE may have some competition! With the help of TCM (all I've yet to see): THE GHOST BREAKERS MUMMY'S BOYS EYES OF THE MUMMY THE RETURN OF DR. X ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY (a rare Bela film I've yet to see) I was at the point where I thought I've seen it all, but it seems as if I have a lot to look forward to after all. DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN, THE WOLF MAN, and the like are great, but perhaps they would all benefit from a few years rest.

I know it's hard to resist them for 11 months, but even going a few weeks and making myself look forward to films I've mostly never seen is quite exciting. Overexposure to anything can be too much and I'm just learning that. Also, I just graduated college a few months back, so this is the first time in my life where I can watch movies and not have to worry about papers and tests at night. I've been looking forward to this '05 horror binge for a long time because of this.

Don't go cold turkey Joe, it's too dangerous. One night you'll flip and go on a monster binge and that will be it for you. You'll be missing work, not eating, sleeping, or leaving the confines of your family room for months on end. Way too risky, don't do it!

Sep 26 05 1:39 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	John Carpenter's Halloween I will be watching this year. I do it every year but this year is a bit different and special. I finally bought the latest release of this film back in the spring. I watched the extras but not the film itself. Im saving it for October. TCM will be helping me watch some films Ive never seen such as a few Abbot and Costello films. Ive NEVER seen any of the ones with the Universal monsters! Im also going to hold out and watch The Terror for the first time ever. I finally found my old VHS that I bought a few years ago..........and never watched!

I shall do my darnedest this year to finally catch the two Laemele era Unis I've never seen; MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE and THE RAVEN (How much is that Lugosi Box Set?). "NO BEDS!"

Which basically means if you go to Best Buy you can probably get it for a little over $20. I need to get it too........didnt have the extra cash on me this weekend.

Though, that led me to the invariable plan to search out every single big studio-made horror movie from the 1930s and 40s! I still don't have some borderline ones of course, but stuff like 'Terror Aboard', 'The Smiling Ghost', 'The Mysterious Doctor', etc. I have steadily taped and picked up over the past ten years. Call it an insatiable appetite. I'm even willing to classify 'Mummy's Boy's' as horror and tape that one this month. TCM is also playing 'Stranger on the Third Floor' on Oct. 1 and that is one I haven't seen and will check out.

Sep 26 05 10:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	That reminds me... my die hard hitchcock fan girlfriend has plans for me to catch several Hitchcock movies I've yet to see on TCM next month, and also record for her a few ultra obscure short movies he did in the 40's (and never available on home video, at least not in Japan). As for myself, the more I think about that Bela Box Set and what is included on it, the more I am starting the justify the expense as a little Halloween treat for me'self! "NO BEDS!"

Sep 28 05 10:38 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It has now become a tradition every October 31st to watch It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Ghostbusters. I'm sure I'll get around to Carpenter's Halloween as well.

Sep 29 05 11:32 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here's my Halloween agenda: Since my kids are on intersession (year round school) they will be home on Halloween during the day so after lunch carve the pumpkins while watching A&C Meet Frankenstein with them. Later in the evening a few friends come over, order pizzas and we'll be watching The Fearless Vampire Killers followed by Sleepy Hollow. If anyone is still up for more after that it will be The Wolf Man or Frankenstein.

But I won't be watching any of the giant ape movies -- KING KONG, SON OF KONG, and MIGHTY JOE YOUNG -- because I'm saving that for the DVD set in November. Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.

In the past I have been unable to get past Dwight Frye's character being such a cheap knockoff of Renfield ("Herman do!") but I know there's more to it than that. And what a cast.
