I would've thought there were still enough of us around who are old enough to have seen them in chronological order. Anyway, I loved EVIL DEAD when it was first released and took my friends to see it. I wasn't too happy with the 2nd one--I was expecting more serious horror and didn't care at all for the increasingly comedic tone. But I guess it prepared me for the "Three Stooges in King Arthur's Court" style of the third one, because I thoroughly enjoyed it and still do.

I saw AOD first. Back when Evil Dead I and II came out, I didn't see them because I thought they were just very low budget corny, not bother to see movies (I would compare them to the SCI-FI original movie). Now I got all three on DVD and watch them once in a while.

It's a favorite of mine, and I'm glad to now have it as part of my DVD collection. Like many people, it's Army Of Darkness which was my first introduction to this trilogy. I didn't much like it at first when I saw this as a teenager, but I can now see where Sam Raimi was coming from, and I can appreciate his wicked sense of humor. I saw Evil Dead 2 a few years after AOD, and instantly loved it! The reason I loved this one right away (unlike AOD) is because in the case of this one, I knew what to expect----a lot of slapstick humor. To this day, I have never yet seen the original Evil Dead.
