Nov 10 07 1:54 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The first few minutes are a simplified rehash of Part 1 (with fewer people, etc.) to bring you up to speed. ED2 really begins when the point-of-view demon goes through the cabin and slams into him, just as ED1 ended.

May 18 08 12:56 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I watched Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 both for the first time last night. They have been sitting on my shelf waiting to be watched and having CQ duty on Saturday gave me the oppurtunity. I started with ED and by the end I was blown away by the gore. I did not know what to expect. A very good movie. I did a quick view at IMDB after viewing it and it stated it initially recieved an X rating on initial release for the gore. I believe it. ED2 threw me off. I got past the "recap" of the first movie and was taken aback at first by the humor. It slowly grew on me as I began to expect it. Now I need to see Army of Darkness for completeness. Cushing

May 18 08 12:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Saw EVIL DEAD on VHS after Fangoria had heralded it as the film of the year and i looked forward to its video debut with interest (i was about 10-11 at the time). We rented it and it proceeded to clear out an entire room after the pencil in the ankle bit. I loved it then and i still do,for its grimy low budget style,inventiveness,campire story quality and the awesome look of the possessed characters themselves. I saw EVIL DEAD II in an empty theater (aside from me and my friends mom who got charged student price for "what she had to sit through"). As any kid of the 80s,i had been following the progress in Fangoria and seeing the FX stills and the great shot of Ash in medievel Europe was awesome. Well,i liked it alright but the creepiness was completely nil and that was the first films strength. ARMY OF DARKNESS i saw opening night and hated the name change and i knew something was amiss from the TV ads. I had given up on Fangoria by this time for pushing boring Hollywood product (long gone were the days when ZOMBIE would grace a cover) so i knew little about the film. Wasn't a fan at the time and it hasn't grown on me at all. If anything i like it less and less with time. Not a fan of the obese sweaty fanbase who begs Bruce Campbell to say "Groovy" or "Gimme some sugar,baby" endlessly at appearances and not a fan of the film in general. Never owned this in any format and never will. It plays like a Sci Fi channel movie for me and thinking about a darker more grim EVIL DEAD film set in a superstitious age just depresses me and makes me hate the film even more. The direction the series took makes me think of the career trajectory of a favorite band moving away from what they do best. EVIL DEAD is like the first Ramones LP with its fast,raw and exciting style unhindered by polish. ARMY OF DARKNESS is the LP they did with Phil Spector,where you know its the band you like but its gone so far off the rails you try to enjoy it as hard as you can but ultimately don't in the end.

May 18 08 6:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I remeber my friends and I going to the local video store and checking out the Horror movie section all the time. My friends and I would just look over all the horror movie cases with excitment, and abit of apprehension. We would talk about the ones we had seen, the ones we liked and the ones we wouldn't go near. Movies like the first Evil Dead and Zombie we were afraid of just by the covers. The Evil Dead when I was young was a notorious scary movie that only hardcore older guys would watch. We would maybey pick it up and say No Way. It just kinda had that reputation. We all at that time were scared enough of the Halloweens and Friday the 13's and stuff like that. I remember when I was 13 I had acouple of buddie sleep over. My one friend was into all the scary stuff that I liked and the other guy was terrified of scary movies. Like we HAD to really convince him to rent a scary movie for the sleep over. Even though my friend and I were abit weary of The Evil Dead we rented it to scary the HELL out of our other friend. We told him "oh man don't worry we are gonna rent the tamest movie possible just to start you off". LOL Haha Was he in for a treat. I can't remeber for sure but I think he was amlost crying from that movie. Needles to say that movie left an impression on all of us. It was a pretty freaky movie at the time. Really gritty, truely evil and very gratuitous. I aggree witjh the posters that were let down with Evil Dead 2 and Army of Drakness. They went the wrong way with that series. they could have really made a kick ass scary movei for part 2 with the budget they had. I'm not one for a lot of gore but the first Evil Dead is to me still to this day an infamous moive when you see that original blue cover.

I had no idea they were part of the Evil Dead series, which I had only seen as video box covers, at that point (there was no question of being allowed to watch those at the time). I havent seen it much since that first time so I cant even remember much about it. Then I saw Evil Dead and then Army of Darkness. I thoroughly agree with everyone who was disappointed with AOD.

May 23 08 6:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I saw ED at a friend's house playing hooky from school (or maybe after school,) but the guy had seen it and, I guess recommended it. We were all shocked at the movie and knew this was some new kind of prohibitive material. The sequel I saw advertised on the Siskel & Ebert show as one of their guilty pleasures. I couldn't believe these guys (or one of them) actually was recommending this kinda stuff. Years later, I started watching stuff with my girlfriend (now my wife,) to bring her up to speed on stuff she didn't even know about. I got ED and ED2. I knew the sequel was a comedy and sold it to her as such. I know she was absolutely shocked with ED, and I doubt she'd wanna watch ED2 again. When AOD came out we were there at the theater. It was kinda disappointing, specially the bad SPFX. But I still liked it. I saw it again on a bus trip, maybe a year an a half later. I didn't see them again until the advent of DVD. Saw ED again, and finally saw it for the comedy it is. It is still gruesome, but is so over the top that you need to laugh: for example see the endless scene with the melting corpse that ends up spewing oatmeal before fully dissolving. It just goes on and on and on... These films are definitely classics of their kind. The fact that they are humorous is weird to me, but I've come to appreciate it. If the humor wasn't there, they'd be just nasty. "There is a lot of money tied up in this film and people expect to hear a boom when something blows up, so I'll give them a boom." They were unfamiliar with the Evil Dead, and I kept touting how horrifying the movies were. Then we got there and sat through a slapstick comedy. I was in a state of shock, not to mention very embarrassed. My friends were just very, very annoyed. My other blogs: Lots of Pulp, Following the Equator: A Mark Twain Blog and Standard of the Day!

I had read about how good it was in a book on horror movies, and decided to rent it to circumvent my sister's pleas for me to rent a Friday the 13th film for her. She ended up enjoying it far more than anything she had ever seen before. We watched the orginal, and as good as it is, I still feel like the sequel/remake is better in every shape and way. It wasn't until much later watching ED2 that I realized once you peel away the obvious laughs how many still disturbing scenes are in fact in it. From Ash cutting apart his girlfriend's head while it still spouts obscenities, to Bobbi Jo's death at the er, hands of the trees, to the fact that Ash clearly is being driven insane by the demons. It's still pretty strong stuff horror-wise. Later I saw Army of Darkness on opening weekend. It seems I went the one showing where every single fan of the series decided to go in my city, and they didn't seem to mind that it was relatively gore-free. It was amazing: People chanting in unison, standing up on chairs, and applauding at the best lines. I've yet to go to a rock concert with as much energy. Strange how a cabin out in the middle of nowhere, which looks just like a small two or three room cabin from the outside, has so many freakin rooms inside and has a root cellar the size of the Pentagon's sub-basement. That minor quibble aside, Ash is the man! Nobody flips himself like Bruce Campbell. I finally broke down and sprang for the three DVD "Ultimate EVIL DEAD" from Anchor Bay. Packed with goodies (including some Easter Eggs), this is pretty much everything imaginable in one single package for the first film. Between the commentary tracks and all the behind the scenes stuff, I felt like I was hanging out with my high school buddies during the making of one of our own 8mm epics. It's a favorite of mine, and I'm glad to now have it as part of my DVD collection. Like many people, it's Army Of Darkness which was my first introduction to this trilogy. I didn't much like it at first when I saw this as a teenager, but I can now see where Sam Raimi was coming from, and I can appreciate his wicked sense of humor. I saw Evil Dead 2 a few years after AOD, and instantly loved it! The reason I loved this one right away (unlike AOD) is because in the case of this one, I knew what to expect----a lot of slapstick humor. To this day, I have never yet seen the original Evil Dead.

Hey Tripod...$666 is the HMV Halloween sale. The first imo is the best because it's a flat out horror film. It might have funny moments but it wasn't as intentional as the remake (ED#2) IMO it just goes to show that more money doesn't necessarily make a better film.
