Good question. Getting back to the American Cinematographer article on DOCTOR X. They included several frame enlargements taken directly from the nitrate survivor. Generally frame blow ups tend to look soft and grainy, but not these. They look substantially superior to anything I've seen including the "restored" 35mm print that I saw theatrically back in the late 80's. I would guess that the surviving nitrate on WAX MUSEUM looks as good if not better.
