In THE BLACK CAT (1941), Bela, as the gardener, is bequeathed a sum of $5,000. He looks very disappointed.
In THE DEVIL BAT, Bela is cheated out of a fortune and handed a check for the sum of $5,000. This, of course, drives him to murderous revenge via his scientifically enlarged bats.
Today, I re-visited MY SON, THE VAMPIRE (OLD MOTHER RILEY MEETS THE VAMPIRE) on TCM.
Then I looked this movie up in my copy of Michael Weldon's The Psychotronic Encyclopedia of Film and I quote:
"A weird movie, for sure, but no worse than your average Monogram feature. The real crime was Bela's salary--$5,000."
