The Official Index To Imagi-Movie Magazines, Volume I: The Warren Years is a page by page index of the complete run of Famous Monsters (1 thru 191 plus yearbooks), Monster World, and Spacemen, plus the Warren paperbacks.
A few years back when I was an AOL member and frequented the Classic Horror Boards, I sent a copy to Tim Lucas and Tom Weaver. I also sent a copy to Marty Baumann at the B Movie Monster website. Marty was kind enough to write a review of the Index.
I'm now offering the index (in PDF format) on a light scribed cd, with bonus items as well. For those of you who might be interested, you can follow this link: Index To Monster Magazines
The index was quite an undertaking. I began in 1989 with 26 pieces of paper, each labeled with a letter from the alphabet. After approximately 20 issues, my brother loaned me his computer.
After indexing 20 to 30 issues, I got into a groove. I went through each issue 5 times. First, I listed the Table Of Contents. In retrospect, I believe this was a major waste of time, but at the time, I felt it was important. Next, I entered all movie-related info. Then came people. And finally, the Letters/Editorial section. Lastly, I scanned through it to make sure I didn't overlook anything.
Forry Ackerman and Michael Pierce, besides offering moral support at times when I felt it was all nothing but a big waste of time, also loaned me Fm's and Spacemen that I didn't have in my collection.
The "project" took 4 years to finish. I finished it in 1994, the year of the FM Convention in Arlington VA.
Some people have asked me if I indexed the stills that were used. Nope, I did'nt.
I'll be sending Forry Ackerman 25% of the proceeds from the sale of my index.
With the price of magazines today, I feel it's priced right. It's only $12.95 and that includes shipping.
If any of the readers here are interested, I also indexed the entire run of Castle of Frankenstein, including the Journal Of Frankenstein (1959). It's not included on this index. If you're interested, drop me an email dave@historiccolumbusindiana.org and we'll work out a price.
