Oct 25 05 7:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I`ve noticed that quite a few posters have never seen certain horror films or just recently saw one. So, which films have you never seen or which one is on the top of your list to see. (No LOST films, please). My most want to see is THE CAT AND THE CANARY 1939 starring Bob Hope. I`ve only seen 2 of the Lugosi 9 from Monogram. MURDER BY THE CLOCK. THE CAT AND THE CANARY 1927 THE CATMAN OF PARIS

So, films like The Black Cat and The Raven are two I've never seen and would now like to. I need to get that Lugosi set soon...

Oct 26 05 1:58 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Haven't seen any of the Karloff Mad Doctor Columbias, though I'll probably be seeing THE MAN THEY COULD NOT HANG tomorrow. Finally saw all the Lewton's, which was the major gap in my 30's/40's horror film viewing. I've seen all the Monogram Nine, though there are a few Monograms and PRC's from the 40's I haven't gotten around to. Have yet to see a Republic horror. Also would like to see: THE CAT AND THE CANARY (any version) THE BLACK ROOM MURDERS IN THE ZOO DEAD OF NIGHT Lots of 40's Universals, though I've seen all the major monster films. Talking stuff like NIGHT MONSTER (the only 40's Bela film I haven's seen), MAN MADE MONSTER, THE MAD GHOUL, JUNGLE WOMAN Aquanetta films, stuff like that. You know, deep album cut Universals as opposed to the hit singles. Pretty much have seen everything else that is consisdered to be of major importance in the golden age. If I included mysteries and borderline horrors, though, I'd be here all day.

Oct 26 05 10:18 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Lately I've had an unholy fascination with 70s TV movie horrors, since there seem to be so many of them and I've seen so few (I get the feeling that actually seeing more of them may cure the fascination!). Also: need to catch up with lots of B-list Universal, some Poverty Row, Asian horror, and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, just released.

Feb 19 06 1:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Has anyone seen a 1932 German film called THE LIVING DEAD (directed by Richard Oswald and starring Paul Wegener)? I read a review of this in the TIME OUT FILM GUIDE years ago and have been dying to see it since. Also, there's a Canadian film from the early 1960's called THE MASK- the stills I've seen from it look INCREDIBLE! Can anyone tell me if these films live up to what I've heard?

Feb 19 06 2:46 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I believe "The Living Dead" is also known as "Unholy Tales". I've seen it, but only in German. Terrific visuals with a few very expressionistic moments. I liked Wegener a lot too. Every time I see him in photo stills I think I'm going to hate his performances, but the severe expressions in some of those stills, thankfully don't translate so equally hammy to the screen.

Feb 19 06 2:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	THE LIVING DEAD is the American release title of the dubbed version of Richard Oswald's UNHEIMLICHE GESCHICTEN (UNHOLY TALES, see the discussion on DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS). UNHEIMLICHE weaves Poe's "Black Cat" and "Tarr and Fether" and Stevenson's "The Suicide Club" into one story. It has great style and is rather tongue-in-cheek though the ending's a bit of a letdown. Oswald did a 1919 film of the same title but that's more of a straight anthology though it does use "The Black Cat" for one segment. The 3-D nightmare sequences in THE MASK are great but the rest of the film is just so-so. Pretty simple plot: put on the cursed mask and you hallucinate and then ultimately develop a desire to kill. Even without 3-D the hallucination scenes are quite effective. Henry

The one mentioned as the "unseeable," i.e., Return of the Terror , is one I'd also like to see before I shuffle off to that great looney bin in the sky.
