He's sitting off to the left with some other people during the entire song of "Like the Fella Once Said," frowning, with his arms as tightly crossed as they can get. Now THAT's some method acting. (Wonder why he was so steamed? Gee whiz, Jeff... you get a couple extra days' work sitting around the set while they play some music... lighten up, Big Guy...)

YOU'LL FIND OUT was a real treat, I wasn't expecting much going in but I had a ball watching it. I agree with you all the way , when I first watched this I found Kay Kyser a tad childish but the more I watch it the more I enjoy the whole thing .He had a pretty solid band and was a far better actor then most of the band leaders who appeared in film's. Was wondering if any of you bloke's found the seance scene as spooky as I did ? I f i had seen that as a kid ,I think it would have freaked me out ! That sonovox voice box kinda of unnerved me .

Oct 27 10 5:07 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The seance scene(s) are beautifully shot, with great creamy closeups of both Helen Parrish and Ginny Simms. Parrish died young of cancer (in her 30s). She had a bit part in either FRANKENSTEIN or BRIDE, I forget. The sonovox is similar to the apparatus people use who have lost their voicebox due to smoking, except that those operate on one tone only.

Her brother, Robert Parrish, was an actor and director, and wrote a couple of interesting books, GROWING UP IN HOLLYWOOD, and HOLLYWOOD DOESNT LIVE HERE ANYMORE. To complete the circle, one of the last things she did was play Lumpy Rutherford's mother on a BEAVER episode, which was (I think) directed by YOU'LL FIND OUT director David Butler.

The contrast between the spookiness of the seance and the lighthearted musical stuff is what sold me on it. I even thought the performance at the end where they introduce the sonovox proper was kinda creepy spooky.

Apr 29 11 8:43 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just got the Karloff-Lugosi DVD set and watched You'll Find Out last night. Yes, it's silly and no classic, but I really enjoyed it. But then, I'm a dork. Our heroes certainly have roles that play to their strengths: Bela is haughty and mysterious, while Boris is, by turns, comforting and sinister. Peter got most of the big laughs from me with his low-key, sardonic line delivery. I could watch and listen to Ginny Simms all day. Just wanted to throw that in there. But I do think there was a missed opportunity. A lot was made of the electric devices Saliano uses during the seances. It would have been a more satisfactory comeuppance for Boris, Bela, and Peter if they accidentally ran into the path of those devices while attempting their escape. And that might have improved the closing gag at the end of the film too. But anyway, the pluses outweigh the minuses to me. I may have to watch it again this weekend.

I mentioned this previously in another thread somewhere, but Helen Parrish also plays a nice role as Marguerite Chapman's little sister "Honey Girl" in Raoul Walsh's 1930 Western epic THE BIG TRAIL, which was John Wayne's first starring role. It's probably not still around, but if so, would anyone know where the old RKO prop dept inventory ended up?

I love that commentary also on THE WALKING DEAD! Great stuff! I wish they had included some for all of the films in the set, including YOU'LL FIND OUT. Ginny Simms is great!
