Of course, I love Sorko's covers for MFTV #18 (Kong) and #19 (Frankenstein's Monster) which is due any day now, but I also loved Vincent Di Fate's She Creature cover on a recent issue of FILMFAX (I can't remember the issue # off the top of my head.), and his Creature cover on the Monster-Mania Con 2 Con Program Book. Finally, there's the VIDEO WATCHDOG Signature Edition #1 cover featuring Donnie Dunagan and Kerry Gammill's cover for MONSTER BASH Magazine #1. Let's hear some more nominees! Dec 28 04 12:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The FRANKENSTEIN cover of the new VAULT, the Dunagan VW and the new CHILLER THEATRE cover -- a gorgeous original piece of art with the Gill Man coming up onto the boat behind a sunbathing blonde -- are my three of my favorite covers of the year -- all three are worthy of an award. I'm sure the Rondo site will feature repros of all covers in contention, so that we can refresh our memories (or see some of 'em for the first time).

Dec 28 04 2:20 PM Burgomaster Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's amazing how popular the Gill-Man remains as a cover subject. I'd add that although I haven't found the issue yet, the Chris Lee Scarlet Street cover I've seen online is striking, as was the vampire cover in Mad About Movies #2. Scary Monsters #50 -- with Blaisdell's Beulah red and leering -- was quite amazing. Monster Bash #1 was terrific, too, as were all varieties of Video Watchdog covers, especially Dunagan and the Tarzan issue. I hesitate to add book or DVD covers -- I've thought of this mainly as magazine or convention book covers -- but Kerry Gammill's cover for Tom Weaver's new interview collection is gorgeous, too. I'm not sure we should make that leap yet, in that adding book and DVD covers might make the choices too mind-boggling. david

Dec 29 04 1:53 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My own favorite VW cover of the past year was Charlie Largent's rendition of EYES WITHOUT A FACE's Édith Scob on #107... but I love the SIGNATURE EDITION cover, too. Also worthy of nomination is Vincent di Fate's IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE cover for FILMFAX.

Jan 15 05 8:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As long as I'm pushing some of my under appreciated writers I'd like to put in a good word for our cover artists. Anyone submitting materials to LITTLE SHOPPE OF HORRORS suffers from the fact we come out so seldom that we are a bit forgotten about. We'll seldom be mentioned in the same breath as VIDEO WATCHDOG, MONSTERS FROM THE MOVIES, MIDNIGHT MARQUEE, SCARLET STREET, SPFX, etc -you name em - but I'll put our cover artists Steve Karchin, Jeff Preston, Bruce Timm and Veronica Carlson up against anything being done in the fantasy/horror field. I made a decision back in 1990 to try to achieve a more FAMOUS MONSTERS look with original art, while shying away from obliterating the artwork with so much text blurb as to destroy the effect of the art. I know some readers comment on the contrast of Timm's recent cover with the more traditional Karchin or Preston (Karchin is doing our CAPTAIN CLEGG'S "NIGHT CREATURES" cover for #17), but it is colorful and sexy. I had no idea who Timm was in the past - just an eager Hammer fan writing letters to me - I must live in a hole. Are these wonderful artists going to be appreciated by this website. I don't know. But I do.

I was just up to my local comics shop, EARTH 2 COMICS, and was raving about Bruce Timm's work on the cover for the latest issue of LITTLE SHOPPE OF HORRORS along with praising his B&W illos for the various featured Hammer actresses. If you haven't seen Bruce's work (the guy that designs all the Warner superhero stuff for their TV animation) you'll love what he created for the magazine. Here's a taste... Sam F. Park

Way back in 1987 he colored the covers for my two Sherlock Holmes mini-series, SCARLET IN GASLIGHT and A CASE OF BLIND FEAR. He did eight issues total, plus the two graphic novel collections. The former won an Eisner Award nomination, and I remember thinking at the time that his superb cover coloring had something to do with it. Apparently, he went on to bigger and better things. :) Martin

Jan 16 05 1:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have to say that I am not a big fan of painted photos, even though I admit they can be breathtaking at times. Sorko has done some beauties for MFTV, without a doubt. But I'll always go for a real painting, like pretty much anything Vincent Di Fate produces. Or that recent Chiller Theatre issue with the Gillman and the bikini babe. That's just fabulous. I guess it's just the traditional artist in me that craves actual instead of "virtual" art. So when I voted this morning, I had to go with a an actual painting...and even that was a tough pick! I just received the second issue of Monster Bash mag from Ron, and I have to say...Kerry, I can't tell if you actually painted this or did a creative photoshop rendering. Either way, it makes the REVENGE Creature look better than ever! Frank Dietz

"Best Packaging" for dvds "Best Cover" for books
