I keep hoping to see the Rondo Awards create there own page on Myspace. With as much horror writing, movies, and fandom on that site it seems like no brainer. If even only to redirect people to this board and the Rondo Awards site.

Oh yeah. MySpace is a wonderful spot for the Rondos.

haha... so true. But plenty of classic horror fans over there as well. it seems like a good place to get people excited about the awards, and get more people to the ballots

The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards indeed are on Myspace (Thanx to my daughter, Tara!)
The address is myspace.com/rondoaward, and Rondo is slowly accumulating 'friends.' Soon this will sweep the entire...state...as Ygor once said. I must admit I'm a bit apprehensive. The viral nature of Myspace is a mixed bag; the vote should always center on monster fans so I'm hoping the awards will still draw only interested parties. At same time, just a quick look at some pages shows numerous monster collectives I was unaware of, so...we shall see! Meanwhile, I wanted to list Rondo as Age 5 (the awards started in 2002), or age 108 (Hatton was born in 1899). But I guess to keep out kids -- at least on paper -- Myspace requires you be at least 14 years old. And it doesn't go over 100. So I put in my age. And it lists that I'm a Pisces (unable to delete that either). Anyhow, if Rondo gets dates, it'll be he who goes out to dinner on the docks. Me, I'll be counting votes. Thanx everyone. david 'She screamed.' |

As a Myspace newbie, a question. I know you can fuss with which friends get shown up top (which is fun and maddening), but is there any rhyme or reason to how the friends get listed in total? It's not alphabetical, it's not chronological, some show up on page one, others on page three, etc.
I know Myspace has software and things devoted just to it, but how are the friends listed (once you get into the total list of friends). |

I've never figured that out either. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. Maybe it's in the order of when the friends joined MySpace. Just a guess though. BTW, the Rondo My Space page seems to be going strong and the friends are growing quickly. Kudos to you and Tara for the great use of this popular and powerful new networking method to spread the Rondo legend even further.

Myspace is interesting...as 'personal' as it is, there's a distancing effect of some kind. Even with all the self-promotion (Rondo included!), there's something a bit off-putting about it.
I don't really feel that comfortable yet...certainly not like here, or a Yahoo group or most message boards. It feels VERY public...anyone from anywhere can stumble on a page at Myspace, which is great, but... Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Or am I too old? Even so, I have 101 friends so far and it's wild to see their avatars and such! david myspace.com/rondoaward |

Re: Rondo On Myspace | ||

I admit to giving in to the pressure of "having" to be on MySpace to be noticed but I also feel uncomfortable about it.
Part of the reason I have given in is because movie studios now list a films site as something/myspace.com instead of a domain name. This is done despite the fact that a .com is easier to find then a MySpace URL. Why? Because MySpace has become part of our culture for whatever that's worth. As much as I have bashed MySpace on the air I have picked up a loyal following by streaming my station over my and others MySpace pages. In fact in my current show we are reading the entire Rondo nominations ballot and talking about it and this board at length. I have received MANY replies from what seem to be true classic horror fans who were NOT aware of the CHFB or the Rondo awards. Without the news on MySpace they might not have known about this gathering of dedicated monster kids! So if you stick to the subect and passion of your page and avoid the ones with too much time on their hands who only want to comment on how pretty your eyes are, MySpace can be a worthwhile tool. Did I just say that? Ok, I did but I'll never admit it! :) www.myspace.com/cultradioagogo www.myspace.com/dufoenet ........................................................ Re: Rondo On Myspace | ||
Quote: No. There is no order to the freinds, which is MADDENING as I use MySpace to promote shows (which are local) and it's tough to know who is where and who can attend and the filters for inviting friends to events is iffy at best. The good news is, "Tom" is working on a way to manage the friends list so one can actually sort friends the way one wishes to. It's a mind-numbiung task as far as I can see. I wouldn't want the job. And it does take them time to sort things through and update the software to upload to the whoosie-whatsie that makes it all happen so.... ...one day before the year is out, I suspect we will all be able to sort and shuffle our friends as we see fit on our own pages. Meantime, note that I send out the ballot announcement via bulletin on a regular (every 3 days) basis and know we've gotten some votes from that. I'm quite fond of MySpace. It's an excellent marketing tool. It's just still in its infancy and growing fast so it keeps outgrowing itself. Hang in there. I believe it's worth the wait. |

I've had to work hard, but we're finally getting some participation from the Myspace world. Interesting in that there's little back and forth there, mostly graphics (Count Gamula's Valentine Card was, of course, perfect), and pose, but there is a community there and I'm beginning to see it and they are beginning to respond. Which is neat. 'New blood.'
Anyhow, we're at Myspace.com/rondoaward if you want to be Rondo's 'friend'! david |

i havent found a spot for myspace stuff, aside from this thread, so i'll mention my myspace here i guess.
i'm pretty pumped right now because the local radio station is playing cuts off my cd, so i've uploaded a couple of the tunes to my myspace page and thought you guys might like to check it out. well, maybe not. but that's cool, too. i'm big into individual desires. anyhoo, its www.myspace.com/matthewjohndrinnenberg i played last summer in marthas vineyard and it was a blast, and i'm gearing up to play some festivals in Maine this Spring/Summer. hopefully something comes of this in a big way, but even if it doesnt it's still a heckuvalotta fun! hope you check it out. hope you like the tunes too. i'll be adding another one tonite possibly. |

This will be in Myspace-speak, but does anyone know if there's an automatic way to generate a comment every time you 'accept' (or are accepted), as a new friend. Or to send a comment to all your friends at once?
(Not a bulletin, I mean a comment). Thanx if anyone knows... |
