Mar 26 07 12:47 AM Burgomaster Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This afternoon at the Texas Fesr Fest '07 in Dallas, I had the pleasure of presenting Joe Dante with his Rondo plaque representing his induction into the Monster Kid Hall of Fame. Dante was speaking and answering questions at the event and at the end of his talk I went up on stage to present his award which he happily and graciously accepted, explaining to the mostly young crowd who Rondo Hatton was. Here are a few photos of the occasion. At the Famous Monsters Convention that was held at Universal City around 1994 or 1995 I was walking out of the dealer room and passing him when he looked up from something he was holding and said, "Look what I got!" I stopped and then realized that it was Joe Dante who was speaking. In his hands he was holding a vintage paperback edition of Frankenstein. He looked at me like an average fan and said, "I had this when I was a kid and my mother threw it away." He was truly elated to have that copy of Frankenstein back in his possession. If he was that thrilled to find a long lost copy of Frankenstein I am sure that he was elated to be awarded the Rondo! And, Tim, regarding your above post---does one necessarily negate the other?

He quickly replied and offered congrats to me as well. Joe is a world class Monster Kid. Most of us who work in the industry owe him a lot, in that he showed us that being a fan of the old could influence the new. Joe Dante, Kerry Gammill. At the end of the convention Sam (FXRH) Calvin and I spent about 2 hours talking and having drinks with Joe and his companion Elizabeth (There's gotta be some term that's more mature than "girlfriend" and less vague than "companion", but I can't think if one). They are both great people and Sam and I enjoyed our time with them emensely.

At first I declined the offer but Burns persisted saying he would only let somebody hold it if he knew they would appreciate and understand exactly what it was they were holding. I felt the way King Arthur must have felt when he pulled the sword from the stone!
