The Classic Horror Film Board is designed to be a forum for our shared enthusiasms for monsters, horror and imaginary mayhem.

It is not designed to be a sounding board for debates about politics, race, religion, immigration or any of the various issues that surround us in every other media or in our daily lives.

That strikes some of our members as overly restrictive, and we can understand that. But it has served us well for more than a decade now and it is, we think, one of the keys to our continued survival and growth. Most members appreciate the no-politics rule, and bristle when it is violated. No matter which side of the issue is involved.

Because yes, we do violate those standards occasionally (The death of Saddam is a recent example). It is often engaging or instructive to debate some big news event, or incidents in our personal lives.

But we too often have to step in when the debates become too heated, too personal, too political or just plain offensive.

Politics is hard enough to deal with, but issues such as race or religion are flashpoints that we will simply not allow to be trivialized or mocked at the CHFB.

This is a mainstream board with a wide range of readers. It is not a private conversation. Offensive material that would not appear in a local newspaper, for example, simply will be removed.

So yes we have an Off-Topics folder and there's all kinds of wondrous things to be discussed. But a reminder that if you simply must discuss politics or hot-button issues of the day, please find an additional outlet. Just don't bring it here. This is the Classic Horror Film Board. Imaginary horrors. The real ones are everywhere else.
