Those nascent folders were victims of the mania. I apologize. you deleted a thread about the Monkees??? LOL. perhaps the content circulated around whether or not they played their own instruments? or was there heated debate over who was the most talented monkee? if the latter, there is no contest. They're not "happy" unless they have something to complain about. I think part of the problem also is sometimes people take things wrong too. The Molly Irving thread is a classic example of people taking something wrong and flying off the handle because of it. Gary handled it in a intresting way but it almost backfired on him. He was basically trying to illustrate how something could easily get out of hand. And it got out of hand. People on the thread ended up apologizing to each other for the last page or so once they got the point but it got real ugly. So I say that it could happen anywhere on this forum. It doesn't happen just on the off topics folder. Remember the piracy thread? Or how about the copyright debate about the Frankenstein Monster's make-up? Or the big one about the writer on the Rondo awards? So really whether we have a off topics folder or not is kind've irrelevant. But that's just how I feel.
