It is not about news of the day or David Hasselhoff (sp?), or Paris Hilton or every other damn thing that shows up on TV. Especially since what ends up happening is not a discussion but the usual allegations and attacks that only betray how much baggage everyone is carrying. Do it elsewhere. And please no more of the puzzled and quizzical, 'then why do we have an off-topic folder' questions. Everyone knows full well the limits we've imposed -- no politics, no news of the day that simply sparks political nonsense. I've about had it, and am pretty close to just chucking having any role at all in the whole thing. So please adhere to these frigging simple rules before I have a total white-out event meltdown. I picked a topic that I thought would be of interest to other board members (and was, judging by the response). I stayed away from politics, race, religion, immigration and other hot button issues and thought I was completely abiding by the rules. In the past, I've always felt like some CHFB members have deliberately chosen controversial topics to test the boundries of the Off-Topic folder. Now, I think that several of these instances may have simply been misunderstandings of what's considered acceptable and what's not. I really was kind of shocked to see my thread deleted. It's only NOW that I'm understanding from you that supermarket tabloid news items of the day are also taboo. I'm sorry if I caused you any agita, David but I really didn't see the line that I was apparently crossing over. Friends?

Maybe clicking on OFF-TOPIC should take everybody over to some OTHER board (with the permission of that board's moderators) which the CHFB administrators don't have to concern themselves with. Shucks. Trouble boils over, and I wasn't involved!

May 5 07 7:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is in no way meant to challenge the board policies, but I can't help thinking that the problem doesn't lie solely within those specific topics but within the behavior of certain people again and again and again. It seems amply clear to me that there are some people who make any conversation they take part in here an ugly mess. I think the ongoing problem with online message boards in general is that those who value civility always seem to be inherently at a disadvantage to those who don't. Conversations are regularly derailed by those who contribute little other than sniping, sarcasm, and ad hominum attack. Clearly the ability to anonymously act in a hostile manner is, to some, the entire reason for posting online. It's not just wearysome to the moderators, I can assure you.

Pitchforks and torches, not assault weapons. But you know what I mean. Everything's fine, except when it isn't. I do find it eye-rolling to have people complain about David Hasselhoff (sp?), getting too much attention by POSTING about it! Anyhow. david

I think we can all agree that there's bound to be trouble in beginning, say, a thread about the President of the United States, or about immigration policy (for instance). But Paris Hilton?? David, I understand you were a little fed up when you wrote your opening remarks, but I'm guessing you're not truly opposed to talking about anything that pops up on TV? It's a tough call -- fights or violent disagreements can crop up even discussing cats (for the record, I'm a "cat guy," not a "dog guy"!!). I'll echo that you do a fine job here, Taraco... and you know I'm saying that as someone who's been on opposite sides of many situations with you over the years. It's no wonder you want to give it all up at times; it can't be easy and I wouldn't want the responsibility myself. If it's a legal concern for the owners of this board, perhaps a disclaimer of some type. OR when the FFA thread reaches a certain length (say, 2 pages) it is automatically deleted, or deleted every 2 days. Thinking out loud... I, too freely admit to having heated up occasionally on some topics, but it's only because someone else has decided to be cold or mean spirited, and i felt I had a right to respond. And I do! DOGS DOGS DOGS DOGS and even more DOGS! ART is just a dog on Neil Young's porch...
