"Cap, you do know that the Reps played dirty in that election too, right? And that many believe that's part of the reason ol' Tricky didn't (mainly...) contest things - so their rocks wouldn't get turned over, too?

And even granting all this in '60... For you, that rises to the level of making Kennedy's being butchered in the street later "poetic irony?"

Well, Wich2, you claim that the Republicans were playing dirty games in the 1960 election as well.  But you don't cite anything specific.  It's common to make that kind of claim without any kind of citation.  If the Republicans were just as dirty it doesn't obscure the fact that Kennedy was corrupt and laughed about it.  I would include further citation but a Google search of fraud in the 1960 election provides 449,000 hits.  That even includes our own taraco's newspaper, USA Today.

But even if Nixon and the Republicans had been accused of voter fraud it would not negate Kennedy's theft of the election.  You can't excuse bad behavior by pointing to another's bad behavior.  The fact is that it is a felony crime to tamper with an election.  Kennedy shouldn't have been in The White House, he should have been in The Big House.  You can't even contest the point if you believe in the rule of law and we are, after all, a nation of laws.

And the story is poetically ironic in epic proportions.  And it is further irony that Kennedy's White House was nicknamed Camelot.  In legend King Arthur's father, Uther, raped a woman he lusted after and that woman gave birth to his child, Morgan LeFay.  As a young man Arthur had been traveling through his kingdom and, not knowing that Morgan was his sister, raped her.  The product of that crime was Mordred who ultimately became Arthur's downfall and the downfall of Camelot.  So it isn't just poetically ironic that Kennedy stole the election and was assassinated for his efforts, but it is further irony that his administration was nicknamed Camelot and that the hero of Camelot, Arthur, had sealed his own fate through his own criminal act.

If that's not poetic irony I don't know what is.  Joe Kenndy is Uther and Jack Kennedy is Arthur.  Think about it.
