At first my thoughts go to Van Helsing asking Renfield, "...what did he want you to do????" And the reply, "...that which has already been done!" This made me think Renfield invited Drac in, if we accept that a vampire must be first invited into a house, a premise not really given in this film, but in later vampire stories. However, Drac is in the house when he visits downstairs prior to the mirror being shown to him by Van Helsing, so he is already invited in, if only be the housekeeper.

But after Renfield's declaration of "...has already been done" Martin proclaims, "...well, strike me down dead, he's broken them iron bars as if they was cheese!" Van Helsing says, "Dracula is in the house!!!!" So only from this does it seem an invitation was presented by Renfield.

Dunno....a thought.

But Dwight Frye was awesome as Renfield, so much so that if I could ever play on stage in a Dracula performance, his is the one I would want to take on.

Isn't this a strange conversation for men who...aren't...crazy?
