Being a fan of George Pal's work, I wish that I could develop at least a little appreciation for ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT, but unfortunately I can't. Except for a nifty submarine design and a few good effects shots, this movie is a disaster. It's easily Pal's worst film IMO; even CONQUEST OF SPACE, which I find rather disappointing, is better than ATLANTIS. Besides the two leads being lousy actors, the dialogue is some of the worst I've ever heard in an A level film. Some of the effects scenes are pretty rough going, and the whole manimal sequence is badly done. I feel rather sorry for talented character actor Edward Platt for being stuck in such a turkey, but at least he had his upcoming role as the Chief of Control on "Get Smart" to make up for this professional embarrassment.
As for Atlantis being Pal's worst film I have to differ with You on that.
I'd have to go with Doc Savage The Man of Bronze as His worst film.
Atlantis is A pretty weak film though.
