I really hold back on some of these announcements, because I realize some people really love these movies but SERIOUSLY? INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN? Does that really have a following that Shout! opted to pay for that over anything else?

I've been a little puzzled by the relatively high level of fan interest in this title (more on other boards than here), given its dreary reputation. (I've never seen it myself.) Maybe Shout was interested in releasing the MST3K version, and decided to give it an "unaltered" release as well?  Also, keep in mind that Shout doesn't have access to all MGM titles; some are tied up with TGG.

I can think of a dozen more worthy AIP titles. I think the actual melting-man image has become iconic of 70's drive-in sleaze, but it's a pretty weak film. Is it supposed to be funny? I can't imagine anyone not laughing at the severed head making it's way downstream.

According to director/writer William Sachs (in a commentary track for another film), he intended TIMM to be a comedy, but AIP recut it to be a straight horror film. The end result is some remarkable tonal shifts, as scenes meant to be funny still play that way, shifting to fairly gory scenes with an effective and genuinely disconcerting monster (courtesy of Rick Baker).

I've honestly never seen anything else quite like it, and while it's not an objectively good film, it is entertainingly unique. I eagerly await seeing it in HD, as well as Shout! providing some extras that shed some light on what must've been an interesting shoot...as most low-budget films are wont to be.
