It's actually quite sad to see all the troubles that people are experiencing with FM these days.
I was one of those MONSTER Kids/fans of Forry's baby that was VERY excited a couple of years back when it was announced that FM would be back in publication.
And I remained excited even after buying the first issue & being lass than enthused with it's content. I figured that it take a few issues for it to find it's "voice". So, I continued to purchase the new issues as well as the "lost issues" #70 & 71 as well as FM Underground to support it. But, as time went on, their articles continued to read like vanilla press releases or sophomoric attempts at journalism. So much so that I finally decided to stop buying it.
Which pained me greatly.
Now, were I in a better situation financially, I'd be happy to spend the 10 bucks an issue just for the covers & the ability to continue on in a world where FM is still being successfully published.
Unfortunately, I honestly don't have that luxury. Because, I'm a reader first & a collector second. And I simply can't justify spending that amount of money on a magazine that I don't enjoy reading. I suppose since it's been over a year since I last purchased or read an issue that I should give it another chance, but really, I just can't afford to in my situation. I live on disability as it is, so money is tight in general. But, for luxury items like magazines, books etc., I'm down to counting pennies as to what I can & can't afford.
With other magazines like Chris Alexander's new & fantastic incarnation of Fangoria & good, solid regular reads like Horrorhound, Rue Morgue & Video Watchdog I know, without a doubt that I'm going to be given a nice amount of bang for my buck. Each one of those magazines is pretty much guaranteed to inform & entertain me for hours.
FM? The last I knew it took about five or ten minutes to flip through it before bagging & boarding it & tossing it into my collection. Not cool.
IMHO I think the people behind FM are ALL about making $$$ off the FAMOUS MONSTERS brand name & that's it.
Certainly, all publishing ventures are about being successful, but one can usually tell fairly quickly who's in it just for money & who has a REAL passion for the subject t at hand & I suspect that those at FM don't particularly fall into the latter category.
