I like the '31 film, and think that Clive and Karloff are great. But I don't see the script as an improvement on Shelley's text - except maybe in the editorial sense of clearing away brush and making the plot move quicker.

In fact, the more-Shelley-content of the '35 plot is why many find it a "fuller" film, I think.

The lack, for me at least, is that the novel just not very well written. That's where the film is an improvement for me. I agree that the more Shelley content plot may be a big part of what makes the 35 film seem fuller however.
