Respectful disagreement there, Mark. What lack?

I like the '31 film, and think that Clive and Karloff are great. But I don't see the script as an improvement on Shelley's text - except maybe in the editorial sense of clearing away brush and making the plot move quicker.

In fact, the more-Shelley-content of the '35 plot is why many find it a "fuller" film, I think.
