That first captain had to go battle Loki, so he had to get our of the Star Trek thing pretty quick.
I don't know, I see problems with stuff such as how the engine room looks, where the ship was built, and Phasers with clips kind of "meh" arguments. None of those things do exist, so we have no idea what any of them will actually be like, or how they will be built. We have no idea where technology might be that far into the future. Heck, for all we know technology will be pretty close to where it is now. We are quite advanced from 1950, that is for sure, but we are nowhere near as advanced as that time period was expecting us to be.
Did they say that Delta Vega was near Earth in the movie? I don't remember. I figure it can't be too close, such as around the planets that do exist. But if it is quite a bit further away from the planets (to a spot we have not yet found), but not quite at the edge of the galaxy, then fine. You know, like moving a fictional city from the north side of chicago to the south side of Chicago, then no big deal. It is kind of a pointless move, but it is a fictional place, so whatever.
Now, if JJ decides that the Star Wars films actually do not take place in a galaxy far, far away, but rather in our own galaxy, then I will have problems.
