Well, yeah, the "Evacuating Earth" show was interesting, but you could draw paralells to any number of science fiction classics... Heinlien's "Orphans of the Sky" for example, or the TV show, "The Starlost."

It's an outgrowth of the Biblical myth of Noah (and the earlier myths that the Christian religion copied from) about one man who could see what was coming, and prepared for it as best he could. Noah: the ultimate "Doomsday Prepper"

Oh, you might also check out the model of the "Ark" which came out about a year ago, from Pegusus hobbies. Beautiful kit from what I understand. And there's even an aftermarket acid etched brass kit you can but to go with it, so you can build the kit in it's half completed form!
