My memory of this film is that it's the silliest of the entire series
You must have not seen G vs. Megalon or G vs. Gigan (where the monsters actually talk to one another).

I agree that the actual "son" (Minya) is pretty ridiculous looking (what were they thinking...?), but this is a nifty Godzilla flick, I think, and should be a treat to see on a nice widescreen DVD (subtitled, no less).

I think the big praying mantis creatures (Kamakaris) are some of Tohos most inspired creations, and I like the big spider as well (Spiga). And neither are men in suits, but large marionettes -- quite effective.

I've heard some suggest that Minya is not necessarily the same species as Godzilla, but merely another kaiju adopted by the big guy. Makes his preposterous appearance (and lack of similarity to Godzilla) go down a little easier.

Oh, and don't forget that Oct. 25, G vs. MechaGodzilla ('74), G vs. Hedorah and the aforementioned G vs. Gigan are coming out, widescreen and subtitled (dubbed, too). The '74 MechaGodzilla in particular is alot of fun!
