How did it do at the box-office?

I actually thought Van Helsing was amusing, if so far removed from Classic Universal as to be a seperate entity. VH is still  a sprawling mess, though, it was never satisfactory as a standalone concern: just too overcooked . I never found it boring, though, as I've always preffered FX over acting ability. Feted actors like Brando and Nicholson bored me to tears, in their most revered performances: many others would disagree with me.

I's sooner watch battling monsters, but todays' surfeit of CGI [like this one] is making this sort of spectacle as common as looking through stacks of comic books to engender any real 'sense of wonder'.

I don't think I've ever hated a film: even Triumph of the Will has Historical interest, if we are to try and understand the regime that made it.

'the horror..............THE HORROR!'
