Before KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, there was a Japanese Kong movie made in 1938, EDO NI ARAWARETA KINGU KONGU ("King Kong Appears in Edo"). This may be the very first giant monster movie made in Japan. The film appears to be lost, although stills turn up, and the effects were handled by Fuminori Ohashi, who later worked on the original Godzilla costume, as well as on KING KONG VS. GODZILLA.
