Right, I read the discussion on this recently. It makes zero-sense, as the definition of the word "premiere" is "first public performance", which is exactly what this screening will be. So once films slowly switch to DigiBeta instead of 35mm prints, they can no longer have premieres? Ever? If Kadokawa actually made such a claim, it's ridiculous.

Kadokawa's not ridiculous, because they never said that the Egyptian screening would not be a premiere. I first approached Kadokawa last November about having the US premiere at the Egyptian, and they liked the idea of a Hollywood premiere. In the dozens of times I've spoken with them (mostly recently this past Thursday) the subject came up often and not once did they say this couldn't or wouldn't be the US premiere. If they felt otherwise, I'm sure it would have been brought up at some point in talks or in the contracts... but that never happened.

In fact, Kadokawa was so thrilled with the US premiere that one of their executives offered to introduce the film, answer questions, and give away some Gamera items.

Whoever started this needs to try understanding the meaning of words before attempting to demand their usage.

You've seen the MZ posts and know exactly who started this. It's the same person who was considering legal action against Kadokawa for their "treachery" in giving the film to the Egyptian Theatre first, and also discussed boycotting the Classic Media DVDs. Bitterness is sad.
