"Add to this the fact that movies are costing more to make as box office hits record lows. We have a lot more Batman and Spiderman reboots as the proven cash cows bring in the money and fewer and fewer other heroes making it to screen. If someone went to the table today and proposed the Avengers series there is no way it would get greenlit today, we are very very lucky the timing worked out so well on it. "

Marvel's movies have pretty tight budgets for that sort of entertainment. More so than DC/Warner Bros. It's not that DCs movies are not watched. In some cases DC movies have grossed more money but the budgets are still too big compared to the grosses. Thor and Captain America did well but not earth shattering but well enough.

There is still an audience for these movies at least at certain seasons anyways.

Personally I'll get so overwhelmed by the volume of movies playing that I know nothing about.
