I finally saw it this weekend. It's still rolling around in my head. It definitely had me thinking after I watched it. I liked it, yet I wasn't crazy about it. Technically, it's beautifully done. The performances admirable. The violence was a bit over the top, but in context, so it didn't seem gratuitous at all. It seemed like the final 15-20 minutes were tacked on, though. There was really only one or two things in the beginning that hinted at the conclusion. I was really enjoying the tale of Jay and Gal. In and of itself, that storyline could have carried the whole film for me. Then, the big turn came (no spoilers here) and I was a bit put off that I had to switch gears. I thought that parts of the final 1/4 were extremely well done. The claustrophobic chase through the tunnels was genuinely harrowing. I didn't care for the final scene at all. Very easy to figure out, so making the reveal drive the final shot was somewhat disappointing. So, you get two films in one - each one having merit. I would love to see what Ben Wheatley could do with a straight forward crime thriller or a full blown horror film.
