As mentioned in a previous post, "Yonggary" is a South Korean movie. The one JimPV is reffering is the more recent (1985) "Pulgasari", made in North Korea. It was directed by Chong Gon Jo & Sang-ok Chin.

From IMDb:
"The backstory to this movie is pretty darn incredible - made in North Korea by the country's dictator - the director and two lead performers were actually kidnapped from S. Korea after they refused to work on this movie with the dictator. Seriously - not kidding."

Sang-ok Chin was the kidnapped director and apparently was forced to make several movies in North Korea, "Pulgasari" being the last one. He was able to escape before its completion and a second director finished the movie.
In spite of the strange conditions of its making, the film itself is a very good piece of work, with excellent SPFX. A DVD exists, with English subtitles.

In 1967, the same year than "Yonggary", South Korea produced another giant monster movie, "Ujugoe-in Wangmagwi" ("Monster Wangmagui"), directed by Kwon Hyeok-jin. "Monster 500 times the size of a man is sent by aliens to conquer the Earth". Has anybody seen this one ?
