I had audio recordings of my favorite movies, but mine were on those open-reel tapes, with 4, 5 or 6 films per reel (I used each stereo track in mono). This went of for me well into the 1970s.
In addition to the horror and sf films, I had lots of musicals and Shakespere films, which were good to listen to after the TV stations had signed off, or when they had nothing good on. I felt like hearing the soundtrack was about 90% as good as seeing the film again.
But the old machine got tough to maintain, the tapes tough to find ... so one day I hauled all of it to the dump.
I have most of the same things on DVDs now. But not all of it.
