I should state that for as much as I dislike the film, I still try and make a go of it quite often. I soooo want to love this movie. Heck, I sooooo want to like the movie. The original film is the reason I love alien invasion films as much as I do. I love the original books, the Mercury Theater broadcast, the BBC broadcast, and the Spielberg version. Heck, I have a soft spot for INDEPENDENCE DAY just for being WOTW in the most blatant rip-off form that it is. Even the Asylum version has some good stuff in it.
THIS? How something that follows soooo close to the original source can be this bad, I have no idea. This is why I have hopes of THE TRUE STORY actually being good. The original source is there, filmed. What hurts the original version of this is all the walking, the horrible acting, and the horrendous FX. So, if Hines has spent the past few years cutting out the walking, removing the sound and making his original footage silent film footage, fixing the FX, and cutting the length, then I can see how this could be good. The acting in the original is very much in key with the style of the silent film stars (granted, still not as good as either Gish sister, Pickford, Fairbanks, or any other dramatic star), so it could work without the stilted dialogue.
The only effect that will probably still hurt this thing are the fake mustaches. Those things are sooo distracting.
