I don't watch the Santos to laugh at them but rather to imbibe in their overblown and sometimes very effective horror atmosphere. That's why I favor the black-and-white ones, though I've seen a couple of color Santos that are knock-outs in the department of horror visuals and frights. (Color recommendation: SANTO VS. LAS LOBAS.)

Of course, there's the most known Santo film: SANTO VS. LAS MUJERES VAMPIRO (SAMSON VS. THE VAMPIRE WOMEN). As good an introduction to the world of Santo as you can get, with too-long wrestling scenes included.

For those who may not know, there's a book forthcoming on Mexican horror films, to be published by Midnight Marquee, VAMPIROS AND MONSTRUOS. Much will be revealed.
