Hey guys! Although I have owned the disc for quite some time now, I FINALLY got around to watching "Black Pit/Misterios del Ultra Tumba" last night. I must concur with the general concensus, FANTASTIC MOVIE!!!! In my opinion, not only one of the best (if not THE BEST) Mexican/Spanish horror film of its era, but one of the three or four top "true" horror (in a decade dominated by Science Fiction/fantasy/Atomic monsters) films of the fifties (along with "Curse/Night of the Demon", "Horror of Dracula", and "Eyes Without a Face").

The film deftly combines various influences and at times, gives the impression of a film directed by James Whale, written by Curt Siodmak, photographed by Mario Bava, and imagined by Georges Franju and Jean Cocteau (with a Mexican/Spanish cast) The acid-scarred make-up harkens back to Lionel Atwill's "withered" burn make-up from "Mystery of the Wax Museum" (1933) and may have served as an influence for Tom Savini's work on "The Burning" (1981) Only the "soap operatic" romantic sub-plot prevents the film from being a "total" classic.

A definite MUST SEE for any classic horror film fan!!
