Oldmanster brought this to our weekly Monster Kid meeting last night.

It was quite a revelation, and the best Mexican horror film I've seen so far (excluding THE BRAINIAC, which is on an entirely different level). This was pretty serious stuff, and about ten years ahead of its time, storywise. I particularly enjoyed Dr. M complaining about not being able to adjust to his 'new' brain very quickly, the implication being that previous-owner Elmer was not much of a thinker. And I thought the scene where Elmer sees his new, acid-scarred face was very well done, with a tremendous scream.

The opening shot had the weirdest spiderwebs I've ever seen, with something like a wire-fence pattern, yet I still bought it as spiderweb. Never seen anything quite like it.

All in all, it was very much like an early Bava film, even though Bava was just starting out himself. So I'm wondering, does anyone know anything about the director and his influences?
