With the new gorgeous print of BRIDES OF DRACULA it seems easy to now say that BRIDES is the better film than HORROR OF DRACULA, but let's not jump to conclusions too hasily.

Gary, for me the gorgeous print has nothing to do with why I think BRIDES is a better film than HORROR.

No where is there a scene as drop dead creepy as the scene with Tania's undead sister preying on the little girl when Van Helsing's crucifix suddenly enters the frame. No where is there a shocking, horrific sequence as terrifying as Lee's entrance into the library, blood smeared all over his lips and teeth, that animal reaction, as his "mate" attacks Harker.

As has already been stated, the idea of Meinster biting his mom is pretty intense. Especially as he calls to her, "come here, Mother". Ditto the rising from the grave sequence, accompanied by the eerie and sadistic laughing.

No where does BRIDES contain the pulse-pounding climax with the carriage chase and the chase through the castle,

Complete with the silly comical bits where the carriage bursts through the man's gate! ;)

leading to the one-on-struggle with the Count and Van Helsing.

Agreed that the struggle between Drac and Van Helsing is superior; but I enjoy the battle between Meinster and Cushing, too.

Although David Peel is terrific as Meinster, Christopher Lee is simply better as Dracula, and so is the film.

Oh, was Lee actually playing Dracula? :D
The reason I ask is because I've always felt that HOD worked better as a "generic vampire" film (like Meinster & BRIDES does) rather than DRACULA. For my money, neither vampire is truly Count Dracula.
