And that's the problem today. What to say, when or not to say, whom to say it to or not, what's okay and what isn't...
I know a guy who's the sweetest person in the world and likes to call people "kid" in casual conversation and without thought. He's always going, "how you doing, kid?" and so on. Well, one of the guys we know once nearly took his head off, yelling back that "I'm not a Kid!!", and that he's a man (maybe he's childophobic or something) - and didn't appreciate "kid". So where to draw the line is anyone's guess (though with my example, I'd say that once an individual lets you know he doesn't appreciate something specifically, it should be honored).
