Quote:
About 25 years lies between the time of BRIDES OF DRACULA and that of Quentin Crisp

Quentin Crisp was 52 years old in 1960, the year of BRIDES OF DRACULA, and had behind him a long career as an author, public figure, and general enfant terrible in England. It may be true, however, that his first American television appearance had to wait another 25 years or so.

My point, which perhaps bears repeating, is that there was quite a long way to go from being publicly recognized as a homosexual to going to prison for homosexual activities---in particular if you were a writer, artist, or actor. We are speaking, after all, of a nation which considered risqué music-hall performances by cross-dressing stars the perfect form of family entertainment. Not to mention the institutionalization of homosexuality in the public school system.
