I'd agree that Twins of Evil is on par with The Vampire Lovers, even if Mircalla is given short shrift. I've always appreciated it for its excellent conflict between the violently repressive Witch Hunter and the corruptly libidinous Vampire Lord, both vying for possession of the bodies of the beautiful twins as the physical embodiments of that conflict. There's a sophistication in that plotting that's absent in many of the other Witchcraft Shockers of the time. Though the actresses are very eroticized, there's still less of an exploitive feel to the torture and murder of the various young women Cushing targets for extermination. And I love that the whole simplisitic Good Vs. Evil duality isn't as clear cut here, seeing as the surviving pious twin really isn't better off choosing the cruel and bigoted "Good" over the liberating "Evil". In the end, both are just as dangerous and destructive, it's just that the vampires are less hypocritical about it.
