I just loved the layouts in the early 1970s Gore Creatures (the period when I was reading, and ultimately at times contributing, to the mag). I remember a loc from me that Gary published where somebody wrote in the next issue and literally accused me of masturbating with a thesaurus. It was a period in my life when I was reading a great deal of such authors as Rider Haggard, Sheridan le Fanu and Sax Rohmer, so ...

There was another zine that was briefly published in Balto by a fan named Bill George. I think it was called The Late Show. I wrote a couple of film reviews for it. It was fun and covered unusual films (the first report about The Wicker Man, I read there) and sometimes duds (they had the first initial coverage of The Devil's Rain which should have been great--directed by Bob Fuest--but, sadly, wasn't).

I only ever saw (and owned) one issue of Photon. It was a good one, though. The cover was Thing from another world but I got it because there was coverage either of Fu Manchu or Flash Gordon--can't recall which now.

cheers, H.
