Well, it will be 15 years ago this month (I think somewhere around March 24th) that DVD was first introduced. I had faith in the format before it was launched and happily bought my first player along with the first release version of THE EXORCIST  on the new format the day of the debut.

Here's to you, DVD.

So how much did that DVD player set you back in 1997 Joe? What brand did you get and how long did it last?

I think we got our first one around 2002 when they got to be available for  around fifty bucks. I probably have a dozen or so now because  I like to shop for electronics at thrift stores but as far as the main duty one in the living room we've gone through 3. The first two were an Apex and a Mintek, and I can't remember which one first, I think the first one cost about $50 and the second closer to 30. They both lasted about two years. Then we got a $30 Magnavox at Wal-Mart which still works great but its now in son's bedroom and was replaced with a similar one 7.99 at Goodwill. Brought home another one for 5.99, all three share the same remote.
I also bought new a couple of $30 Philips ones at Circuit City because they can play Divx and all sorts of computer formats. They do play everything well except they're real fussy about what  DVDs they play. Oh well.
Got a set-top DVD+R burner, a Sanyo, around 2005, and it is still going, have burnt well over 1000 discs on it.

Who would have thought a complete typhoon would have come out of nowhere and disgraced all calculations?
