I believe todmichel is talking about a composite version where missing dialogue scenes are added to the re-cut, such as where Prof. Van Helsing and Juan Harker discuss Lucy's death at the conclusion of the staking scene.

I toyed with the idea of cutting in missing dialogue scenes using hard-coded English subtitles, but it was a bit distracting to have the English-speaking and Spanish-speaking actors switching back and forth between scenes. I agree with todmichel that it would give us a better idea of what Browning intended, but I decided to go with something more along the lines of the re-cut of Touch of Evil.

Missing scenes of key dialogue does complicate things more.  I wonder if something along the lines of what they did with LOST HORIZONS would work?  With LH they had the audio but not the visuals - they used still photos to compensate for the discrepency.  With DRACULA maybe still photos accompanied by text without any audio.  Or would that be too distracting?
