You're right, and it's tragic. Even in a country where the old movies are shown daily on TV - including some silents - , available on DVDs, often re-released in theaters, etc., if general audiences can identify some people like Jean Gabin, Brigitte Bardot or Louis de Funès, most of the biggest stars of the past are totally unknown by young moviegoers, as most of them just never watch old movies anyway. It always seems strange to me, as when I was a 15yo old boy, I often watched movies made 25 years earlier, or even more.  Of course I wasn't alone, other kids of my age also watched these old movies, but we weren't the majority.
