I love the "english" DRAC as much as most of us early-generation Monstuhkids, but it has plenty of problems.

To be fair to Browning, Gary Don Rhodes and our own hardworking Clark have presented a good case for the idea that some of that was not his fault - though based on other choices in the film beyond just the cutting, and comments from those who were on-set, I still don't find Tod's work here to be first-water.

But the raves about the Spanish one seem overdone to me, too. Though smoother in some ways, it suffers from some of the same early-talkie stiffness of technique and acting as the other; and Villarias' work is indeed a destructive black hole in the middle of the piece.

Lugosi, of course, towers.
