I think it probably depends on the condition of the 9 prints of the 16mm version held by UCLA.

Because of the change in storyline in the 1929 version, there would have to be a lot of intermingling of the 16mm footage from 1925 and the 35mm footage from 1929. I've fooled around with the first couple of reels of the '25 version and the '29 version with my editing software, and there's an awful lot of switching back and forth. The jumping back and forth with the current poor condition 16mm print is a bit distracting, but it might work better if the other surviving 16mm prints are in better shape.
