Good afternoon! Yes... it is true! A remastered version of K. Gordon Murray's infamous Santa Claus is coming... in HD, no less! Two different sources suggest that the film was originally shot in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio and blown up to 1.85:1. Some sources claim that the 'Mexiscope' format is Mexican equivalent of the Cinescope format, which is why many assume that Santa Claus was shot at 2.35:1. I CAN tell you the HD master was made from the Mexican negatives and the aspect ratio of THAT transfer is 1.85:1 (and formatted for 16x9). Needless to say, the film has never looked better. Not perfect... but vastly superior to everything that is out there. And it is the first time anyone has been able to see the film in its original (supposed) aspect ratio since the original Mexican language release. Wrapping the extra's now...
