THE PITCH - Ken Russell fans have been chomping at the bit for decades to see an un-censored, properly framed print of this blasphemous shocker. It's sure to generate more hate-mail than sales if there are even enough people out there who remember who Ken Russell is. Finding all the censored footage could be a real goose chase, and most brick-and-mortar stores will probably not handle it........on second thought just give it to Criterion or Blue Underground and scrape all traces of your name from it.
My understanding from the HTF thread on the Devils is that a complete print exists in Britain.  I saw the Devils in the 1980s and recall liking it.  However, when you read what was cut from the film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devils_(film)), it's hard to escape the conclusion that Russell only included much of the footage as some kind of statement, and never expected it to make it to theaters.  The subject matter of much of the cut footage is so ludicrous, the only thing one can imagine that he failed to include was a scene where Vanessa Redgrave consumed Oliver Reed's excrement.  As it was, Russell's conception of a medieval nunnery would be savaged in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  Both in terms of quality and likelihood of release, fans might be better off requesting the theatrical cut.

I have the same ugly "Angel Video" unauthorized DVD that other fans have, which has much stronger content than the WB VHS of yore. I wouldn't mind just seeing a cleaned-up re-framed version of the same edit, it's rude, but no stronger than SWEET MOVIE, SALO, or ANTICHRIST which Criterion put out without flinching. In fact it's comparatively tame. If Warner can release a deluxe blu-ray of Reagan McNeal putting the cross where the sun don't shine, they can fork this over or give it to someone who will.
