Don't know about the last 4-5 years, as I've pretty much stopped buying comics (pick up the occasional graphic novel or archive compilation though), but Dark Horse had been using Tarzan on a semi-regular basis, even having him crossover with John Carter a few years back.

didn't I mention Andy Hardy comics previously?
You may have and I just overlooked it or forgot.

Sure, the Roy Rogers character in the comic is not the Roy Rogers in real life

True, and Jerry Lewis isn't the goofball persona he used on-camera.  Catch him in a serious interview or listen to his commentary for THE NUTTY PROFESSOR and he was quite a cinematic craftsman behind the camera.  (Although, that being said, Jerry isn't to everyone's taste.)  As for Don Rickles, he almost always comes across as "being on," so I've always been curious as to whether he ever drops the act.  (He and Bob Newhart are close friends, often vacationing together with their wives.  Would love to have seen those two do a project together...maybe a revival of Neil Simon's THE ODD COUPLE.)
I understand Bob's point; but I'd agree that as "ORIGINATING in comic books" was not specified in the title of the thread
And, again, I wasn't trying to split hairs with my earlier post; just expressing that the title of the thread had me reflexively think of characters originating in the medium when I first read it (and why I was looking at it that way).  Dracula has appeared in a lot of comics, but my initial reaction at hearing that character's name will probably find me thinking of Christopher Lee or Bela Lugosi before Marvel's TOMB OF DRACULA eventually comes to mind.  (And speaking of TOMB, RIP to Gene Colan, whose work that title was fantastic.)

I have one of those science fiction/fantasy movie books with a chapter on comic book movies, and it is fairly sad, simply due to its narrow scope.
A subject worthy of its own volume or a lengthy series of magazine articles rather than just a chapter.

I do see we are having a comic film renaissance, but more than anything it is simply possibly due to too cheap special effects. These films would have been impossible to make before, now we are being inundated with them.
These could almost be looked upon as today's counterpart to the cliffhangers.
